We have cemented a crown and the following are things to keep in mind for the future:
In order to make room for the crown, the tooth has been reduced in size. The nerve inside the tooth may respond to the procedure by becoming sensitive to hot and cold. The sensitivity usually resolves, but may take several days or weeks. Please call if you are experiencing increased sensitivity four weeks following the procedure.
The crown has been adjusted to your correct bite. Teeth can detect small changes, so if your bite feels uncomfortable please call so the crown can be adjusted and the tooth does not become sore.
The cement holds the crown to your tooth tightly, but can become loose if chewing very sticky foods. If the crown becomes loose or falls off please call as soon as possible to make an appointment. Please bring the crown with you to the appointment if it has come off.
We also recommend not chewing ice and other hard materials. The excessive force placed upon teeth and crowns can cause cracks, splitting or other injury.
Tooth decay (cavities) can still develop around the edges of the crown. It is important to maintain a high level of oral hygiene by brushing and flossing around the crown.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns regarding your new crown or any aspect of your treatment by calling Morris Dental Clinic 320-589-2161.
